Former Miller Library Building to Be Updated

The old building will receive an estimated $6 million in updates and be home to library workers and a senior center wellness facility.

The county is set to begin construction on improvements to the former library building in Ellicott City.

The former Miller Library Building in Ellicott City sits next to the new, striking Charles E. Miller Library and just in front of the Howard County Senior Center.

Since December 2011, the building has been used for administrative purposes.

The estimated $6 million in updates will turn the old building into a "state-of-the-art" 34,000-square-foot library administration and senior center wellness facility, according to the county.

During construction the county plans to add a two-story addition and renovate the exterior and interior of the building.

Demolition of part of the building is scheduled to begin on Nov. 15. Construction is expected to be completed in September 2014.
