Residents and Two Dogs Rescued from Ellicott City Fire

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find smoke billowing from a ground floor apartment in Ellicott City.

Two residents and two service dogs were rescued by firefighters after a ground floor apartment caught fire in Ellicott City around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Baltimore County and Howard County firefighters responded to the scene after receiving a call of people trapped, with smoke billowing out of windows at an apartment in the 8900 block of Town and Country Blvd., according to Howard County fire officials.

Firefighters entered the building and were able to escort the residents and the two dogs through an interior stairwell, said firefighters. The residents and dogs were uninjured and refused medical treatment, according to fire department spokesperson Marc Fischer. There were no injuries reported due to the fire.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to place the fire under control. After checking each apartment, firefighters determined the fire did not extend past the apartment where it started, according to Fischer.

Damage estimates were not immediately available, according to Fischer.

The apartment where the fire occurred was declared uninhabitable, said Fischer. Building maintenance was on the scene to assist the residents, said firefighters.
