I love when people stand in the street spots on Main Street and Maryland Ave to reserve them. They eventually move as I back into the spot. I've moved chairs and cones holding street spots too. First come first serve.

space availability for the app is determined by sensors, not the meters being paid or not. there are sensors in the free spots too. meter paid status and amount of time a space is taken will be monitored by parking enforcement.
it tells you in general where the spots are, by lots, Maryland Ave, and Main Street segmented by blocks. the best bet is to go in the direction of where it shows 4+ spots. if you zoom out on the app, it shows # of spots available per lot and street section. -

ReplyThis has been brought up in the parking meetings. More police coverage in the late night and early morning hours. We get a lot bar crowd lingering past 2am and I've heard them outside up to almost 4am. The rowdiness can occur earlier in the evening as well. Patrols have gotten better since the issues have been brought up with the county council and local law enforcement but it hasn't been consistent during the busy and late hours through the whole week. There is no reason for 6 squad cars to sit in LaPalapa parking lot providing security while we have a rowdy crowd at the middle and bottom of the street.

Exactly, we knew the parking situation when we chose to live here. A majority of us are not asking for unlimited free parking. We understand the need for turnaround on the street parking. The proposals we brought to the meeting were no more than what we have now, when we chose to live here. We asked for better patrols in the lots where a lot of hit and runs and vandalisms occur after dark. We asked for two hours a day on the weekdays so we can park near home when we get home from work without paying. We didn't ask for any free time on the weekends. I hardly call that whining and complaining. We just asked for what we have now and more secure and safer parking lots.
