ReplyI wish promoting spay and neutering would be a larger part of the pitt bull discussions (or any dog really). Whether offering a low-cost or free spay/neuter clinic specifically for pitt bull mixes is the solution, I don't know. But, it sure would be nice to have less come into kill shelters, especially the good ones, because they ended up in the wrong hands.

ReplyWe have some summer specials at the shelter right now to help more of our wonderful cats find their fur-ever homes!
Kittens: One for $135.00 or two for $200.00
Adult cats: Adopt an adult cat now for only $75 and those that have been at the shelter for awhile are now only $50. That's not much money for a lifetime of love! -

I am not in any way comparing the damage a pit bull can cause to what a small dog can do. Obviously they have a much more powerful bite. I just feel that owners should have to take responsibility for their dog no matter what the breed is, not just if it has pit bull in it. I don't care what type of dog a person has, they need to be responsible for properly restraining the animal whether it is a large dog or small.
I support putting pits in responsible homes and getting them spayed an neutered so we do not end up with more in the shelters. (certainly not filling every community with them) It's just hard to see a really good dog stay in the shelter system so long because they are a pit mix. -

ReplyI volunteer at an animal shelter and have worked with a variety of dogs. It really just depends on the individual animal. Our sweetest dog right now is a pit bull mix. I completely trust her - she is so snuggly and loving. It's those little ones that snap at you! I've had far more dogs under 10 lbs bite at me than any big dog.

The South River Federation works to preserve, protect, restore, and celebrate the South River. They offer a vast array of volunteer opportunities from growing oysters to tree planting to stream cleanups to engage people in the restoration of our River and Bay. This money would go a long way to help them continue offering volutneer events for the community.

ReplyThanks for doing this article! Just to clarify - I can only help with the trap, neuter, and release if the person contacting me is willing to pay for the spay or neuter which ranges from $40-60.

This is an incredibly sad time for the Penn State community. A man that we had so much respect for, that meant so much to us, was a source of pride, a man that we never thought would ever be involved in something like this, ended up in this horrific scandal along with others that all bear guilt in one way or another. Yes, he should have done more (along with all others involved) and I am not trying to defend his actions. What frustrates me is that he was quickly fired (not saying that it didn't need to happen at some point) while others were only placed on administrative leave - they should have been let go already as well. Instead the media primarily focusing on Joe, I wish more attention was focused on seeing that all others involved receive equal consequences and ensuring that Sandusky spends the rest of his life behind bars. As a Penn State Alum who has been so proud of her school over the years (and not just in football - we are so much more than that), I only hope the future reveals more answers, finds justice for the victims, and ensures that nothing like this ever happens again at Penn State or any other school or university.
