ReplyThe county makes a lot of money off of DWI/DUI's. Courts, jails, bailbondsmen, lawyers, police all get paid off of DWI arrests.
P.S. Saw FOUR police behind a traffic stop on Rt. 40 today. I guess it takes 4 patrol cars to respond to one speeder! -

ReplyThe HCPD has break-ins happening all over Howard County, but they decide to put their effort into this revenue making checkpoint instead? WOW!!!

ReplyThree years ago on Fat Tuesday, I watched the Howard County Police fly up and down Rt. 40 around 2am lookiing for drunk drivers. They were driving WAY over the speed limit. The really bad thing was that they were driving up and down the road speeding while they had all of their LIGHTS OFF!!!! No HEADLIGHTS, No red or blue lights, not even the light from the car radio was on. NOTHING. Then when a car would pull out onto Rt. 40, they would swoop in behind them and then turn on thier lights all at once and pull them over.
This is what the Howard County Police do. They spend their time on Rt. 40 looking for drunk drivers. They don't have time to police your neighborhood to look for thieves. Catching burglars doesn't generate the county as much money as it does catching drunk drivers.
Go out and watch Rt. 40 tonight around 1:30-2:15 am. Watch the Police pull people over for no reason except that they pulled out of a bar parking lot.
Try driving down Rt. 40 around 11pm on any night and you will get a three County Police escort from Normandy to Turf Valley just waiting for you to do something to pull you over.
So, when your house gets broken into, at least you know that Rt. 40 is protected. -

ReplyGee, maybe if the police would do a little more than just cruise up and down Rt. 40 looking for speeders and drunk drivers and maybe cruise the neighborhoods once in a while, there would be less break-ins. Just a thought.

ReplyAnd now there is a story about a store window on MAIN STREET that was smashed in. HOW can this happen? Does the Howard County Police Department realize there is more to their job than just cruising Route 40 bettween Normandy and Turf Valley looking for drunk drivers?
Can't find a policeman when you need him? There are at least 15 of them on Rt. 40 at closing time for bars. -

ReplyBreak ins, robberies, and burglaries. They can happen because everyone knows that the Howard County Police only care about catching "drunk" drivers.
It's fun to sit anywhere on Rt. 40 bettween Normandy and Turf Valley around 2am and watch the Howard County Police fly up and down the road with all of their lights off waiting for someone to come out of a bar and pull them over. -
