Police Arrest Ex-Boyfriend in Columbia Shooting Death

The suspect was arrested in North Carolina and will be extradited, according to police.

Police have arrested a man in North Carolina in connection with the killing of a woman who was found shot to death in her car in Columbia. Howard County Police issued a warrant for 43-year-old Ryan Patrick Matthias of Charlotte, N.C. He was taken into custody by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police on May 11.  According to police, on May 4 at about 9:30 a.m. someone called police to report a woman in a car on the 9600 block of Basket Ring Road who “appeared to be injured.” When police arrived, they found 47-year-old Deborah Castellano dead in a Toyota Corolla parked in a parking lot. Ellicott City Blogger Killed at Home

Police say Dennis Lane was stabbed Friday morning.

Howard County police have identified a man found stabbed to death in his Ellicott City home Friday morning as blogger Dennis James Lane. According to a statement from police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn, Lane, 58, was stabbed in his home on the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way. Lane ran the Howard County blog Tale of Two Cities and co-costed a Howard County Podcast "... And Then There's That" with Paul Scalny.  A family member called 911, according to the statement. When police arrived at the home, they found Lane and a 19-year-old male who Llewellyn identified as a "suspect." Lane was pronounced dead on the scene. Police: Ellicott City Man Stabbed to Death at Home

Police say they have a 19-year-old in custody.

Howard County Police said they are investigating a fatal stabbing Friday morning in Ellicott City. According to a release from spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn, at about 4:20 a.m., a man in his 50s, whose name has not been released, was stabbed in his home on the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way. When police arrived at the home, they found the victim and a 19-year-old male who Llewellyn identified as a "suspect." The 19-year-old is believed to be a family friend. He is currently in police custody, according to Llewellyn, but he has not been charged.  The stabbing is being investigated as a domestic incident, according to Llewellyn. Woodbine Residential burglary A burglar broke into a home on the 14900 block of Old Frederick Road sometime between late night May 6 and noon on May 8, according to police. The burglar pried open a window and stole cash, according to police. Mt. Airy Residential burglary A homeowner returned home to the 17300 block of Old Frederick Road on May 7 at about 5 p.m. and saw someone had gained entry to the house through a window. Police: No Suspects in Columbia Shooting

Police have not identified a suspect in the case of a woman found shot to death in her car in Columbia. At about 9 a.m. on May 4, police said they received a call from someone who said they saw a woman who appeared injured in a car on the 9600 block of Basket Ring Road.  Police said they found the woman, Deborah Castellano, 47, in a Toyota Corolla parked in a parking lot. She had been shot multiple times, according to police. “Police are still investigating possible suspects and motives,” according to police spokesperson Mary Phelan. Alleged Howard County Bloods Gang Members Arrested, Indicted

Federal authorities say the gang members have been operating in Howard County for three years.

Nearly 20 alleged members of the Howard County Bloods gang were indicted Wednesday on federal racketeering charges after 25 search warrants were executed across the county, including in Elkridge,  according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland. Two of the alleged Bloods members and three additional people were also charged with conspiracy to distribute drugs. “The indictment unsealed today shows that no community is immune to gang and drug activity, but it also demonstrates our commitment to ridding our neighborhoods of this criminal element,” Howard County Police Chief William J. Ellicott City Residential burglary Someone entered a home on the 3500 block of Angus Valley Trail on May 5 and stole a pet squirrel, according to police. Commercial burglary  Sometime between 6 p.m. April 3 and 7 a.m. the next day, someone broke into Design Group, on the 7500 block of Richard Valley Road, according to police. Tools were reported stolen. Woman Found Shot to Death in Car in Columbia (Update)

Police say the woman had just moved to the area.

Howard County Police are asking for help after a woman was found shot to death in a car in Columbia Saturday, according to a statement released by police.  Someone called police at about 9 a.m. after seeing a woman who “appeared to be injured” in a car on the 9600 block of Basket Ring Road, according to police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.  When police arrived, they found Deborah Castellano, 47, dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a Toyota Corolla parked in parking lot, according to Llewellyn.  Police say they think Castellano had recently moved to the area and was living in the apartment building near where she was shot. Jury Hands Down Verdict in Jarrett Murder Trial

The jury has decided the fate of a former Elkridge resident accused of killing his wife more than 20 years ago.

After hours of deliberation, a jury has found former Elkridge resident Robert Jarrett Jr. guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his former wife, Christine Jarrett, the Baltimore Sun reported.  Prosecutors had been seeking a first-degree murder conviction for Robert Jarrett, who reported Christine Jarrett missing in 1991. At the time, a detective on the case said that he thought she had run away. More than 20 years later, in April 2012, police found a body later identified as Christine Jarrett buried in concrete under a shed in the back yard of the Claire Drive house the couple had shared. Ellicott City Burglary, late reported Sometime between March 1 and March 15 someone entered a residence in the 5600 block of Tricross Drive, broke an electric meter and then took a fishing pole from the front porch. Robbery Two males blocked a delivery person's path to a building and took a portion of a food order in the 8700 block of Town and Country Boulevard around 11 p.m. on April 9.
