Orioles to Host Father's Day Catch Session

The team announced special ticket packages for a June 16 game against the Red Sox.

Nothing like a game of catch with Dad. How about on Father's Day, and on the field at Camden Yards? The Baltimore Orioles announced Friday that the club is selling special ticket packages that will allow fans to do just that. The Father's Day Catch on the Field Package will be available for $150 for the Orioles' Sunday, June 16 game against Boston. The package includes two left field lower box tickets and the opportunity for two people to join in a pre-game catch session on the field. Additional tickets will cost $75 each, according to a team release. An upgraded package costs $198 and includes two lower box tickets in sections 6 to 14 (on the first base side) or 60 to 64 (on the third base side). The catch session will start at 11:45 a.m…

Maryland General Assembly Notebook 2013

Miller Gets His Bust

A state senator wants a new state bird; one man's technolgical fortress is his castle; and the Senate president feels snubbed by Obama.

It's not a statue in front of the office building that bares his name but Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller did receive a bust of himself this week courtesy of the Regional Manufacturing Institute. Sen. Kathy Klausmeier, a Perry Hall Democrat, gave a sneak preview of the small, light-weight bust of Miller moments before presenting it to the Senate's top dog. "You can't have too much Mike Miller," Klausmeier said. The technology is similar to what was used in a scene of Jurassic Park 3 where a copy of a velociraptor's larynx was recreated. The institute offered legislators in Annapolis the opportunity to have themselves scanned into a computer and get busts of themselves. Miller seemed impressed with the petite bust but joked that it …

Orioles, Nationals Force Decisive Playoff Games Friday

It comes down to winner-take-all for both Baltimore and Washington.

It might be the biggest day of baseball this region has seen in decades. On Friday evening, both the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals will play the final—and decisive—games of their respective divisional series. Just 24 hours ago, it wasn't clear that either team would live to see action beyond Thursday, with the Nats trailing the St. Louis Cardinals and the O's trailing the New York Yankees by two games to one. But in thrilling, late-inning play, both teams slipped ahead yesterday to seize 2-1 wins and even up each best-of-five series at two games apiece. Washington's saving grace came in the form of a walk-off solo home run by right fielder Jayson Werth in the bottom of the ninth, which snapped a 1-1 tie that had held since the…

VIDEO: O's Fans Say 'We Knew We Would Be Here'

Two Orioles season ticket holders tell the tale of a 15-year wait.

Debbie Dwyer and Rosie Cassidy have been patiently waiting. When the Rockville residents purchased an Orioles season-ticket plan 15 years ago, they were making an investment in the future.  They knew someday it would pay off. Little did they know it would be 15 years. And little did they know in spring training that it would be this year. Patch caught up with Dwyer and Cassidy in their sweet seats before Game 2 of the American League Division Series. They normally sit on the first base side, so they were adjusting to their new digs, but you can see in the video how thrilled they were to be at Oriole Park at Camden Yards to experience the club's first playoff series since 1997. The Orioles and Yankees met in Game 3 Wednesday night. TELL US…

VIDEO: Orioles Fan Flies In From Miami For Game 2

Brandon Davis and his mom, Edye Stewart, were at Oriole Park at Camden Yards Monday.

Brandon Davis decided he could do without some of his musical equipment. What he couldn't do without: experiencing an Orioles playoff game. So the Anne Arundel County native—a 2002 South River High School grad—hocked some of his personal items from his Miami residence in order to catch a flight and land a ticket to see the Orioles play in Game 2 of the American League Division Series Monday in Baltimore. Davis, 29, and his mother, Edye Stewart, sat about 10 rows off the field along the right field line as the Orioles defeated the Yankees, 3-2. See the video for more from Stewart and Davis. Davis is retired from the military. Monday was his first game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards since the 1997 season. The Orioles carried a similar …

PHOTOS: Orioles Fans Enjoy Playoff Baseball

The Baltimore Orioles hosted the New York Yankees Sunday night in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Patch was on hand to capture images from the game.

Baltimore Orioles fans rocked the yard on Sunday night as the team hosted its first playoff game since 1997.  Fans came early, then waited through a lengthy rain delay before the game finally got underway at about 8:45 p.m.  The game ended with a disappointing 7-2 loss to the New York Yankees.  Game Two of the ALDS is Monday night.  Did you attend Game 1 of the ALDS? Playoff Schedule Set for Orioles, Nationals

Baseball's postseason kicks off this weekend. Guess who'll be there?

Major League Baseball's 2012 regular season is officially in the books, and for the first time ever, the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles are both in the MLB playoffs. The O's fell 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday in Florida, knocking Baltimore out of contention for the American League East title. They'll head to Texas for Friday night's wild card playoff after the Rangers surrendered first place in the AL West this week by dropping three straight to the Oakland Athletics. Wednesday's loss also deprived Baltimore of a guaranteed home playoff game, as the Rangers—who matched the O's 93-69 season total—have a better head-to-head record against the Orioles (5-2). A win on Friday would pit the Orioles against the rival New …

Weigh In On Orioles vs. Nationals

The surprise success of the Orioles and Nationals has the region buzzing.

The Orioles and Nationals "rivalry" has required quotations through the first few years of interleague play around the beltway. This year is different. Entering the three-game weekend set, beginning Friday night at Nationals Park, the two clubs are battling atop their divisions against clubs with star-studded rosters and larger payrolls. So as one of the most important series between these neighboring ball clubs gets underway, the Patch sites in the Maryland area are curious: who are you pulling for in this year's Battle of the Beltway? Are you cheering for Bryce Harper and the Nationals? Or are you behind Adam Jones and the Orioles? While we're at it, which team do you think stands the best chance of staying in the pennant race late into …
