Here's the latest 'SnowQuester' forecast for Ellicott City.
A winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening in Howard County where, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), more than 5 inches of snow is possible, "With the potential for more than a foot" in some areas. It's not forecast to be the light, fluffy stuff, either. "Heavy, wet snow" coupled with "gusty winds" could lead to hazardous roads and power outages, according to NWS. The Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA) was making staffing plans as of Monday afternoon, according to the MSHA Facebook page. We should see sunny skies Monday, but it will be a blustery day, with 15 to 25 mph winds from the northwest and temperatures reaching the low-40s, dropping to the high 20s at night. A hazardous weather outlook warns of a nasty wintry mix.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Howard County Friday. According to the forecast discussion, we can expect a sleet and snow mix. The precipitation, whatever it may be, will likely begin around 6 p.m. NWS is predicting not much accumulation -- "maybe a trace to a couple hundredths of an inch." Temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-30s Friday afternoon and night.

The National Weather Service reports that the wintry mix is slated to begin in the early afternoon.
Planning to leave the office for lunch Friday? You may want to consider brown-bagging it. The National Weather Service predicts rain and sleet are likely to start after 1 p.m. Snow and sleet accumulation are anticipated to be less than half an inch, with temperatures reaching about 37 degrees, according to NWS. The rain and snow are expected to return after midnight, and a precipitation amount of less than a tenth of an inch is possible. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly to about 33 degrees.

Schools will close 1.5 hours early due to possible snow storm Friday afternoon.
All Howard County public schools will close 1.5 hours early Friday due to an expected afternoon snow storm. All aftercare programs, sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in Howard County public schools have also been canceled, according to the school system. All school-sponsored and community-sponsored events, including high school athletic practices and games scheduled for this evening, are canceled. Baltimore, Carroll and Montgomery schools are among those that have announced earlier on Friday that they will close schools early Friday. If people can't drive in hundredths of an inch of any type of weather, then they certainly do not need to be driving. They are the hazard, not the weather. If u get caught in it on ur commute home, stop by Walmart or the library or anywhere else for the very short amount of time it takes to get that little of snow/ice.
