Howard County Sports Roundup: Tuesday's Results

Mount Hebron girls varsity soccer wins big; Centennial girls varsity soccer draws even.

Final: Cent - 0 Atholton - 0 Centennial outshot another opponent (15-10), but just couldn't find the net as they tied Atholton, 0-0.  "We really defended well to limit Atholton's opportunities," said coach Steve Baxter.  "Atholton has been scoring plenty this season, so I'm impressed with our team defense to hold Atholton to just 10 shots through 100 minutes." Junior Katie Donegan (six saves) played exceptionally well in goal as she was able to keep Atholton from scoring. Centennial did have a chance to win the game late in the second overtime when junior forward Rachel Hein was able to beat an Atholton defender and head towards goal.  Her shot from inside the 18 sailed just right…

Howard County Sports Roundup: Friday's Results

Centennial girls varsity soccer loses a thriller; Glenelg Country falls to Indian Creek

One goal was all River Hill needed as they won a thriller against Centennial, 1-0. "This was an outstanding competitive game that continues to show we can compete with the best," said coach Steven Baxter. " We are right there." Centennial was involved in another close battle on Friday - something the Eagles are all too familiar with this season.  Despite being outshot 12-9, Centennial only allowed one goal to the Hawks, which came early off an early corner kick.  The ball struck the cross bar and bounced right to a runner off the far post, who put the shot away.  River Hill went up 1-0 and did not look back. "My girls played a fantastic game" said Baxter. "We really applied good pressure in the second half, but just couldn't score."  …

Howard County Sports Roundup: Friday's Results

Centennial girls varsity soccer loses a heartbreaker in OT; Glenelg Country girls varsity soccer falls to St. Tims

Girls Varsity Soccer Cetnennial @ Reservoir  Centennial - 0 Reservoir - 1 Centennial's defense was strong, but the Eagles could not outlast Reservoir, losing 1-0 in double overtime. "Reservoir outshot us 22-13, but many of these shots were from well outside the 18, which is a good indicator of how well we defended," said Centennial coach Steven Baxter. The extra shots on goal, however, proved to be the difference as Reservoir's Axenfield was able to score the game's only goal on a free kick with just four minutes left in the second overtime. Overall, the game was evenly played.  Both teams played hard, not giving up any easy shots on goal. Katie Donegan, who played in goal for Centennial, recorded 12 big saves, but could not stop Axenfield…
