Trial Postponed for Man Accused of Killing, Burying Wife

A new court date for Robert Jarrett Jr. will be set this week.

The trial has been postponed for a man accused of murdering his wife and burying her under a shed in his backyard. Jury selection was scheduled to begin Wednesday for Robert Jarrett Jr., who faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, Christine Jarrett. In a motion hearing in Circuit Court on Monday, a judge ruled that the remains found entombed in concrete and buried under a shed at the Elkridge home the couple shared could be used as evidence. Jarrett reported his wife missing in 1991. According to police, Jarret reported that he and his wife were arguing and that she left and didn't return.  Neighbors told Patch that for 21 years, they suspected that Christine Jarrett was buried in the yard where police say her body was…

Alleged Remains of Wife's Buried Body Approved for Trial Evidence

Jury selection should begin Wednesday in the case of an Elkridge man accused of murdering his wife, burying her under the shed.

Remains found buried in concrete underneath a shed in an Elkridge backyard can be used as evidence in the state’s trial against Robert Jarrett Jr., a judge ruled Monday.  The remains, according to the medical examiner, were those of Christine Jarrett, Robert Jarrett’s wife in January 1991 when he reported her missing. In April 2012, Jarrett’s second wife – from whom he was separated at the time and who later filed for divorce – allowed police to search the property behind their house.  It was the same home Jarrett shared with Christine when she was reported missing.  Jarrett was indicted on first-degree murder in May. Judge: Evidence Seized on Jarrett's Property Stays In

Evidence from a search of the property where the remains of Robert Jarrett's wife were found can be used in trial.

A Howard County Circuit Court judge ruled Thursday that evidence discovered in the April search of Robert Jarrett’s home may be used in his trial on charges of killing his wife. During the search of the Elkridge property, police uncovered the remains of Jarrett’s former wife, Christine, mixed with concrete and buried beneath a shed in the yard.  Jarrett is accused of first-degree murder in the death. He reported his wife missing more than 21 years ago.  Thursday's hearing was one of several scheduled to determine what evidence can be used in the case.  According to Senior Assistant State's Attorney James J. Dietrich, Judge Richard Bernhardt denied defense motions to suppress evidence obtained from the property. Bernhardt has already ruled …

Judge to Consider Legality of Search in Jarrett Case

The remains of Robert Jarrett's former wife were found buried beneath a shed in his yard.

A hearing is being held today in Howard County Circuit Court to determine whether the police search that produced the remains of a woman missing for 21 years was legal. Robert Jarrett, of Elkridge, is accused of first-degree murder in the death of his former wife, Christine, whose remains were discovered by police in April mixed with concrete and buried beneath a shed on Jarrrett's Claire Lane property. The hearing is one of several scheduled to determine what evidence can be used in the case. Judge Richard Bernhardt has already ruled that evidence of “domestic discord” in the Jarrett household could be used as part of the prosecution's arguments and that since Christine Jarrett's remains have been cremated, there cannot be a reexamination…
