Church Forgives Shooter Who Killed Two, Including Pastor

After two church employees were killed, the Diocese says it forgives the man police say was responsible.

The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland said in a proclamation that it forgives the man who shot one of its pastors and an employee before turning the gun on himself last Thursday. Howard County police say they believe Douglas Franklin Jones, 56, shot Mary-Marguerite Kohn, 62, co-rector at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and Brenda Brewington, 59, an administrator at the church.  Brewington was pronounced dead at the scene -- in her office in St. Peter's -- and Kohn died several days later from her injuries.  Police found Jones dead in a wooded area near the church Thursday evening from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A gun was found nearby. Police said Jones, who lived in a nearby campsite in the woods, was a frequent visitor at the church's food…

Two Funerals for Victims of Ellicott City Church Shooting

Friends, family and well-wishers shared thoughts about Mary-Marguerite Kohn and Brenda Brewington.

Friends and family remember Mary-Marguerite Kohn and Brenda Brewington for their devotion and dedication to others, according to the Baltimore Sun. Kohn and Brenda Brewington were both victims of a shooting last Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City. Police pronounced Brewington dead at the scene. Kohn died days later from her injuries. Howard County Police say the suspect, Douglas Franklin Jones, 56, lived in a camp in the woods in Ellicott City and had frequented the St. Peter's food bank.
