Girl Scouts Sell for Sandy Victims
In the spirit of civic duty, Troop 4771 sold cookies for Hurricane Sandy victims on Election Day.
Members of Waterloo Elementary School's Girl Scout Troop 4771 set up shop outside Ellicott Mills Middle School Tuesday, one of the County's polling places for the General Election. The girls - Julia Bainchini, 7; Rebecca Bianchini, 10; and Shannon Wilcox, 9 -- had bought plenty of cookies themselves, actually. After seeing the damage done by Hurricane Sandy to homes in New York and New Jersey, the girls decided they wanted to do something to help. So they bought boxes of cookes to send to the victims On election day, the girls were soliciting donations from voters to cover the costs of the cookies.

Maryland Unlikely To See Large Impact From Nor'easter
A National Weather Service forecaster said Maryland is unlikely to get much of a hit from the nor'easter developing to the southeast, one that could hit areas still recovering from Superstorm Sandy.

Just a week after Superstorm Sandy rumbled up the eastern seaboard, a powerful nor'easter appears set to do the same, with the outside chance to dump a wintry mix on parts of Maryland. In an advisory Monday, the National Weather Service said the storm is expected to develop off the Carolina coast on Tuesday before moving north. Ken Widelski, a forecaster with the NWS in Sterling, VA, said in a phone interview that how much precipitiation the Baltimore area gets—if any—depends on how far west the storm forms. Still In the Dark? Dancel Family Center Y Offers Help
There are still several hundred customers without power. The Y has them in mind.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, there were more than 500 customers in Howard County without power according to BGE's website. For residents that need a shower, want to charge their electronics or just want to warm up inside, the Dancel Family Center Y is offering its services. It's been a long couple of days for residents along the East Coast of the United States.
