The men approached plain-clothes female officers in Howard County and offered to pay for sex.
Howard County Police charged 11 men with solicitation of prostitution and related charges after they were arrested in an undercover operation on Wednesday along Washington Boulevard in North Laurel. The men were arrested after they approached plain-clothes female officers and offered money for sex, according to police. This was the first undercover prostitution operation of 2013, said police. In 2012, police arrested 23 men in September, ten men in July, and eight in May in similar operations. Six of the men were from Laurel, two from Rockville, one from Elkridge, one from Lanham and one from Randallstown, according to police reports. Related Articles

Howard County police offer tips on protecting yourself from these crimes.
Police say a network of thieves has been breaking into cars near daycare centers, gyms, schools and parks up and down the East Coast, including in Howard County. The thieves are using stolen information to steal money from victims’ bank accounts. According to police, eight cases that fit this trend were reported locally between December 2012 and February 2013. The victims told police they had left their purses in their car when they went to pick up kids; take a class at the gym; or walk dogs. All of the victims were women, according to police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn. When they returned from their errands, police said, the victims returned to smashed windows and missing purses. Residents who turn in guns at Saturday's event will receive $100 and a free gun lock.
County Executive Ken Ulman and Howard County Police Chief William McMahon shared the podium on Friday with a family member of a victim of accidental gun violence to ask residents to turn in unwanted guns on gun buyback day. McMahon said police will give people $100 each for guns brought to the Dorsey Building at 9250 Bendix Road in Columbia from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Police said anyone who turns in guns will remain anonymous. Up to three guns can be turned in for money, although police will take as many guns as a person brings. Howard County police will hold a gun buyback program on March 16.
Howard County police are offering residents $100 per gun if they bring it to the Dorsey Building in Columbia on March 16. Guns dropped off at the event will be destroyed and funds to pay for them will come from money seized in drug investigations, according to police. “This is truly about safety,” said Police Chief William J. McMahon, in a statement. “If you have a gun in your home that you no longer want, we will help you eliminate the possibility that it could be used in a way you never intended.” Those participating in the event will remain anonymous, and police said they will not ask for identification at the event. Police say 3 were charged with driving under the influence.
Five drivers were arrested late Saturday and early Sunday at a sobriety checkpoint on U.S. Route 1 in North Laurel, according to Howard County Police. Police say three people were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, one for driving without a license, and one for driving on a suspended license. A total of 537 vehicles reportedly passed through the checkpoint, situated near Davis Avenue and staffed by members of the Howard County and Maryland State Police. Assistant was provided by the Howard County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Drivers were given an informational handout with DUI information, police said. A routine press release from the Howard County Police Department on an upcoming sobriety checkpoint this weekend generated 89 shares, 64 “likes” and more than 25 comments on Facebook. What was all the fuss about? Ellicott City Residential Burglary – Ashley Court An unknown person broke a window in the basement door of a residence on the 4500 block of Ashley Court to enter and then ransacked bedrooms stealing jewelry, cash, electronic gaming equipment, a laptop and a gift card sometime on Feb. 13. Residential Burglary – Rocky Glen Way Jewelry, a purse and a Bose stereo were stolen and bedrooms were ransacked at a residence in the 2700 block of Rocky Glen Way.
