New Parking Meters into Effect in 2013, Exactly When Unclear
The county does not have a 'firm date' for when the new meters will begin collecting money.
New parking meters in Ellicott City’s Historic District have been installed and line Main Street and Maryland Avenue. The meters, which were put in place in early November, are hidden under padlocked covers, set to “go live” after Jan. 1. But when, exactly, after Jan. 1 is not yet clear. “We don’t have a firm ‘go live’ date,” Director of Special Projects for the Department of Planning and Zoning Steve Lafferty wrote in an email on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Lafferty said that – in large part because of the holidays – the county was not able to complete testing it needs to do before turning the meters on. “We will be sure to give businesses, residents and the public adequate notice,” he said.
