Keep it Clean: Event to Clean, Beautify Historic Ellicott City

Local businesses will also be adopting parks and green spaces next weekend.

Main Street is in for some spring cleaning, just in time for the Ellicott City Spring Celebration. A group of businesses and neighborhood associations are teaming up with the Howard County Recreation and Parks to clean up Main Street and other green spaces in the Historic District on April 20. People will start getting their hands dirty at 9 a.m., when volunteers will get to work picking up trash, mulching and planting greenery in pocket parks, according to a statement from the Ellicott City Restoration Foundation. At 10 a.m., some local businesses will officially “adopt” designated spaces, encouraging them, and the city, to upkeep and maintain the neighborhood.  The project is the kick-off for Adopt-A-Piece of History, which aims to bring…

Joan Eve Classics & Collectibles Sweeps Window Contests

The Main Street store wins the People's and Judge's Choice Award.

Joan Eve Classics & Collectibles takes all.  The Main Street collectibles shop was voted the People’s Choice winner in the Ellicott City Restoration Foundation’s (ECRF) annual holiday window decorating contest. Runners up are Vintage Bliss Boutique in second place, and Sweet Elizabeth Jane in third place. For its “classic and elegant window,” Joan Eve will receive a quarter-page ad in Howard Magazine, according to a release sent out by the ECRF. Vintage Bliss will receive ad space in The Business Monthly and Sweet Elizabeth Jane wins ad space from Howard County Tourism and Promotion.  Joan Eve’s window also won the Judges’ Choice window decorating contest, voted on by a panel of judges including Victoria Goodman of Blossoms of Hope; Jackie…

Classic Window Decoration Wins Decorating Contest

Joan Eve's ribbons and gems stole the show on Main Street.

Joan Eve’s holiday window is classic. Its red ribbons and sparkling jewels suspended from the ceiling won over the judges in the Ellicott City Restoration Foundation’s (ECRF) window decorating contest. As the winner of the Judges’ Choice contest, the store will receive a one-third page ad in the issues of its choice from Howard Magazine. Coming in second in the competition is Vintage Bliss. Third place goes to A Journey From Junk. Tea on the Tiber and Sweet Elizabeth Jane receive an honorable mention. Judges included Victoria Goodman of Blossoms of Hope; Jackie Panowicz of Custom Media Options; Joan Waclawski of The Business Monthly; Beth Burgess of Howard County Planning and Zoning, and Ed Lilly, ECRF president.
