Police say Neighbor Broke in Through Window: Crime Roundup

Ellicott City Residential burglary An acquaintance of a woman who lives on the 3400 block of Plum Tree Drive knocked on her door on May 18 at about 5:45 p.m., according to police. The resident ignored the knocking, but a few minutes later heard a loud crash in the kitchen. When she went to see what the noise was, the resident saw that her acquaintance had removed the screen to a kitchen window and climbed into the home. The acquaintance, a 52-year-old Ellicott City woman who lives on the same block, was charged with fourth-degree burglary. Maintenance personnel for a residence on the 8600 block of Town & Country Blvd. discovered on the night of May 16 that someone had been living in the boiler room of the building. Police: Ellicott City Man Stabbed to Death at Home

Police say they have a 19-year-old in custody.

Howard County Police said they are investigating a fatal stabbing Friday morning in Ellicott City. According to a release from spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn, at about 4:20 a.m., a man in his 50s, whose name has not been released, was stabbed in his home on the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way. When police arrived at the home, they found the victim and a 19-year-old male who Llewellyn identified as a "suspect." The 19-year-old is believed to be a family friend. He is currently in police custody, according to Llewellyn, but he has not been charged.  The stabbing is being investigated as a domestic incident, according to Llewellyn. Alleged Howard County Bloods Gang Members Arrested, Indicted

Federal authorities say the gang members have been operating in Howard County for three years.

Nearly 20 alleged members of the Howard County Bloods gang were indicted Wednesday on federal racketeering charges after 25 search warrants were executed across the county, including in Elkridge,  according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland. Two of the alleged Bloods members and three additional people were also charged with conspiracy to distribute drugs. “The indictment unsealed today shows that no community is immune to gang and drug activity, but it also demonstrates our commitment to ridding our neighborhoods of this criminal element,” Howard County Police Chief William J. Ellicott City Residential burglary Someone entered a home on the 3500 block of Angus Valley Trail on May 5 and stole a pet squirrel, according to police. Commercial burglary  Sometime between 6 p.m. April 3 and 7 a.m. the next day, someone broke into Design Group, on the 7500 block of Richard Valley Road, according to police. Tools were reported stolen. Elkridge  Commercial burglary Someone stole copper piping from a Ryan Homes construction site on the 6100 block of South Meyer Drive sometime between April 26 and April 3, according to police. Ellicott City Burglary, late reported Sometime between March 1 and March 15 someone entered a residence in the 5600 block of Tricross Drive, broke an electric meter and then took a fishing pole from the front porch. Robbery Two males blocked a delivery person's path to a building and took a portion of a food order in the 8700 block of Town and Country Boulevard around 11 p.m. on April 9. One suspect was described as a black male with a light complexion, a shaved head, who was not wearing a shirt. A detailed description was not given for the second suspect. Columbia Man Charged in Ellicott City Robberies

Police have arrested the 25-year-old in connection with robberies at Exxon, 7-11

A Columbia man who police say fired a gun in the direction of a clerk while robbing a convenience store has been arrested in connection with three armed robberies. Police say Peair M. Turner, 25, of the 5500 block of Waterloo Road, robbed a 7-Eleven and an Exxon in Ellicott City, and the Sonesta Hotel in Columbia. Each time, he allegedly displayed a handgun and he fired it at least once, according to police. Police say Turner entered the 7-Eleven on Montgomery Road on Christmas Eve and showed a handgun, demanding money. He then fired in the direction of the clerk who was not hit. Violent Crime Down, Burglaries Up in 2012

The 2012 countywide crime statistics were released by Howard County Police on Tuesday.

Violent crimes in the county were down compared to last year, but burglaries rose slightly in the 2012 annual statistics released by Howard County Police on Tuesday. There were 574 incidents of violent crime—which includes homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault—in 2012 compared to 597 in 2011. Last year’s numbers were not the lowest in the last five years, in 2010 there were 558 violent crimes, but 2012’s numbers were much lower than 2008 and 2009 when there were more than 700 violent crimes both of those years. While property crime, which includes burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson was down as a category; burglaries were up from 2011. In 2012, there were 1,185 burglaries compared to 1,108 the year before. The burglary …

Robbery at Pizza Hut: Crime Roundup

Ellicott City Commercial robbery  Two men approached someone making the money drop at the Pizza Hut on the 9200 block of Old Annapolis Road on March 30 at about 1 a.m. One of the two men showed a knife or a stick and yelled at the victim to drop the money, according to police. The victim dropped the cash, then called 911. The first suspect is described as a black male, about 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds. He had a mustache and was wearing a black ski mask with a hole cut out for the face and tight-fitting clothes. The second suspect was wearing similar clothing as the first, but there is no further description. Armed Robbery At Ellicott City Exxon: Crime Roundup

Ellicott City Armed Robbery A man wearing a hoodie entered the Exxon gas station on Montgomery Road, grabbed a can of iced tea and brought it to the counter. When the clerk opened the cash register, the man displayed a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. He took money from the register, as well as the clerk's wallet and iPhone. The man then fled on foot toward condominums on Ericson Road then to the YMCA parking lot. Police described the suspect as a black male, 17-21 years old, with a thin build who was wearing a blue hoodie and black pants. Ellicott City Son Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder of Dad

The 28-year-old was mad that dad accused him of using his credit card, court officials said.

An Ellicott City man pleaded guilty in Howard County Circuit Court Tuesday to attempted first-degree murder after he stabbed his father last September, according to court officials. Clement Yien-Chiu, 28, had been living on the 5100 block of Lackwanna St. in College Park. According to court records, Yien-Chiu’s had come over for dinner on Sept. 8. His father accused him of theft; he said his son had used his credit cards without permission. Yien-Chiu pulled out a pocketknife, according to records, stabbed his father in the neck then punched him in the head.
