In this year's Deck the House contest, the second time was the charm. Joseph Felix's home in Dallas, GA outshined the other 24 finalists to win the 2012 Deck the House contest and $100,000 for the Paulding County school district in Georgia. After placing second in the nationwide voting in the 2011 contest, the Felix home received nearly 11,000 votes this year to finally win Deck the House. A Columbia home was also selected as a finalist this year. Charles Daniels' home on Durham Road East near Wilde Lake made the finals for the second year in a row, but wasn't able to pull off the votes for a win. Could Charles Daniels' Columbia home be the best “decked” house in the country? Possibly. (Although Bryan Bartlett's is pretty great, too). Daniels' home, which features almost 300,000 lights, was chosen as one of the 24 finalists in Patch's nationwide Deck the House contest. The house is located near the 5000 block of Durham Road East in Columbia. "I've been decorating for at least 13 years," said Daniels, who previously worked as an electrical engineer. "I've been retired for 13 years, so I have the time to put together a very nice Christmas display." Who has the best “decked” house in Ellicott City? According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, this home, at 4802 Red Hill Way, with its lights sychronised to hit songs and Star Wars scenes has the best holiday lights in Ellicott City and, possibly, in the country. We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. Patch.com is launching a nationwide contest to find the best dressed holiday home, and the winner’s school district will receive $100,000, no strings attached. I've seen what you guys have done, Ellicott City. I think we've got this contest in the bag. This is all you have to do: beginning today and continuing through Dec. 26, you can nominate your home by uploading a photo to the contest entry form on the site. During that period, you and your neighbors will also be able to vote for your favorite festive home. The winning entry will be forwarded to a national Patch judge that will select 24 finalists.
