Wine in the Woods takes place Saturday and Sunday at Symphony Woods Park in Columbia.
Howard County's annual celebration of Maryland wine takes place this weekend. This year's event will include about 1,500 volunteers from wineries and the community, and an expected attendance of 25,000 people, according to Anna Hunter, the marketing director for Howard County Recreation and Parks. One of the new additions to this year's event is a cell phone app—available on both Droids and iPhones—that includes a map that shows where food vendors, artisans and wineries are located, as well as a schedule for the live music acts. A ribbon cutting for the new building took place on Monday morning.
William Fisher, the director of cardiovascular technology, stood in the middle of his new classroom inside the new health sciences building at Howard Community College. He was showing people on a tour the new emergency room-like suite, the training beds, the shiny floor and all the new space he has. "Before, we were training in a classroom a quarter of the size of this," said Fisher. "This will be a whole new level of training."
