The 14-year-old female who accused a fellow student of raping her at Wilde Lake High School told police the incident happened Monday inside a choir room, according to the statement of probable cause filed in court documents. Police said that the school provided evidence that shows the girl and DeShawn Rasheed Jones, 17, entering and leaving the choir room, as well as the 14-year-old taking one of her friends to the restroom after it happened, according to the documents. Jones is currently being held on $500,000 bond, according to court officials. He is being charged as an adult with second-degree rape, second-degree assault and false imprisonment. Wendy Webster, store manager of Wegmans Columbia discussed the store's first months of business.
Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced during his State of the County address last week that the Wegmans in Columbia was breaking store records in its sushi department. The sushi counter at the grocery superstore is often crowded, but was the store really breaking Wegmans records, and, if so, would the private company, that does not release an annual financial report, be willing to talk about business? "We're exceeding expectations for our Columbia store," said Wendy Webster, store manager of Wegmans in Columbia, on Monday. "The store has broken a lot of records." As for what records, Webster wouldn't elaborate. She said that although the store has been doing very well, especially its sushi section, she didn't want to diminish what …

Heavy rainfall overnight on Wednesday soaked Howard County.
A rain storm that poured down on the county overnight on Wednesday caused flooding, road closures and downed trees. The storm swept through Maryland leaving approximately two inches of rainfall in an 18-hour period, according to National Weather Service (NWS) data. On Main Street in Historic Ellicott City, the Patapsco River rose so high it nearly reached the bridge that leads into Catonsville. Officials closed Main Street in the morning due to flooding and some businesses were dealing with the after-effects. Phoenix Emporium, Great Panes and Discoveries were just some of the Main Street businesses that said they experienced flooding due to the storm. “You get used to it,” said Len Berkowitz, owner of Great Panes, who was cleaning up …

Police said they spotted McRae near the 8100 block of Tamar Drive on Jan. 6, near the site of a burglary that had just been committed. Sheriff's Office says leads dried up after investigating "kind of a flophouse."
The search for a pair of suspected burglars wanted in Howard County for their possible involvement in a string of daytime door kick-in burglaries continues after they failed to show up at a bail hearing on Nov. 15, law enforcement officials said. The Howard County Sheriff's Office is leading the search for Joseph Leo Baumgarten, of Pasadena, and Dianna Marketti, of Dundalk. "We sent some deputies out, they backtracked them out all the way to the Dundalk area where they hit a dead end at an abandoned foreclosed home... kind of a flophouse," said Mark Verderaime, of the Howard County Sheriff's Office. "That's where it went cold." "They're still looking into it. [Deputies] have probably hit three, four locations, and talked to some people, …

Local fresh food delivery business overcomes initial obstacles, eyes future expansion.
Six months ago Friends and Farms was just an idea—two food industry experts wanted to provide customers with a way to get farm fresh food without it spending unncecessary time in a large distribution center. Now, just half a year after opening, they've tripled their customer base and are eyeing future growth. The key, says owners Philip Gottwals and Tim Hosking, is being able to provide baskets of regional food, year-round, directly from farms to customers for $51 for a two-person basket each week or $76 for a four-person basket. "People are astounded by pristine quality fish in a $51 basket," said Hosking. "We pickup fish everyday that we pack baskets and the fish are cut that day." "It's really exciting that we have a system that's …

E. Callahan- I understand you are posting in defense of your friend, the principle Mr. Lemon however, the parents and teachers who are quite familiar with the every day functions in Wilde Lake know much better then what you are "preaching".
