Lovable, Laid-Back Leo

Meet Leo, a handsome St. Bernard-mix with a sweet, gentle spirit and accepting nature.

Hey there, Patch readers. My name is Leo and I’m a soft, fluffy ball of sweetness with a very laid-back attitude. Mutts Matter thinks I’m a St. Bernard-mix, which makes sense given how tall and handsome I am. I have a soft and flowing creamy-white coat, and big, soulful brown eyes. I’m about four or five years old and weigh 85 pounds, but I could stand to put on some more weight due to the lack of care I received in my last home. Just because my last owner wasn’t good to me is no reason for me to hold a grudge against the rest of the world, so I stay positive and friendly with everyone I meet, no matter who they are. I was rescued out of a shelter in rural South Carolina after being saved from my home by Animal Control. I was underweight …

Walk for Animals This Sunday

Whether rats or cats or dogs, the Humane League supports animals in Maryland and needs your help.

When a lab is finish performing tests on its rats, or rabbits or cats, there is nowhere for the animals to go, Kate St. John said. “They’ll just get euthanized … We try to give them a new, loving home,” St. John said.  St. John and her husband, Aaron, are co-directors of the Ellicott City-based Humane League of Maryland, and they have built a network of support, finding people to adopt former lab animals and foster pets whose owners are temporarily unable to care for them. They do outreach and education programs, transport animals, find homes for animals—and they’re trying to expand their operation. This Sunday, the Humane League is hosting a Walk for Animals fundraiser to help raise money to help bring animals and the people who love them…
