I ended up spending quite a bit for my visit. It was very expensive, and I had to pay entirely out of pocket. I'd been going there for a very long time (several months) and he still couldn't remember my name. It made me feel very unimportant. I've also never seen a provider look so unkempt.
In my honest opinion, Sam Berkowitz is extremely unprofessional, and largely interested in financial compensation moreso than patient care. He may also be senile, and I'd argue, is unfit to practice at his age (80+), and with his attitude / demeanor. Every time I would come in for an appointment, and throughout the appointment, I would always have to remind him of who I am and what my circumstances were. It was very frustrating and saddening. Worse than that, he would not leave me alone when I wished to stop seeing him, and kept suggesting that I continue spending money on sessions that I felt were completely unnecessary. Overall, he, in no way, represents what a therapist should be. Instead, he comes off as a desperate huckster and conman whose primary goal is filling his wallet by ingratiating himself to you and your family. Please do not make the same mistake I did, and go seek real counseling from someone more qualified, and someone who cares about their clients.
