Ellicott City Labor Day Running Classic 10K & 5K

·       Where:  Saturday, Aug. 31, 8 a.m.

·       When:  12290 Folly Quarter Road, Ellicott City

·       Description:  Both the 10K & 5K start and finish on the grounds of the Shrine of St. Anthony. The 10K is a road race through surrounding neighborhoods and scenic western Ellicott City countryside. It is USATF Certified: MD07010JS. The 5K is a road/trail run.

·       Cost: $20

Lady Blazers Travel Team Basketball Tryouts

·      Where:  Roger Carter Community Center, 3000 Milltown Road , Ellicott City

·       When:  Saturday, Aug. 31, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

·       Description:  The Lady Blazers Basketball Travel team will hold tryouts for 6th and 7th grade girls Aug. 27, 29 and 31 at the Roger Carter Community Center in Ellicott City.

Les Miserables

·      Where:  Toby’s Dinner Theatre, 5900 Symphony Woods Road , Columbia

·       When:  Daily – Ends Nov. 10, visit website for showtimes

·       Description:  Theatre lovers are invited to experience the story of Jean Valjean as he evades his parole officer Javert while trying to raise orphaned Cosette, all against the background of the French Revolution.

Singsational Seafood Fest

·       Where:  Centennial Park, Columbia

·       When:  Monday, Sept. 2, 1 p.m.

·       Description:  Enjoy gospel music & other performers, seafood & traditional cookout buffet, AYCE crabs, vendors, prizes, & more! Mon Sept 2, a great way to celebrate Labor Day...register today - space limited.

·       Cost: Free access for entertainment – see website for cookout ticket prices.

Columbia Mindfulness Group

·       Where:  Kittamaqundi Community Church at Oliver’s Carriage House, 5410 Leaf Treader Way, Columbia

·       When:  Monday, Sept. 2, 7 p.m.

·       Description:  The Columbia Mindfulness Group meets the first Monday of each month.  All are welcome to join in a 30 minutes of quiet meditation followed by a discussion/sharing time focused on a book that the group is reading.

·       Cost:  Free

Customer Appreciation Night at Elkridge Volunteer Fire Dept.

·       Where:  Friday, Aug. 30, 6 p.m.

·       When:  Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.

·       Description:   Bring a friend and receive your package half price*

Maryland State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament

·       Where:  Pottery Farm Park Courts - Back River Neck Rec 801 Back River Neck Road, Essex

·       When:  Saturday, Aug. 31, 8 a.m.

·       Description:  Baltimore Metro Horseshoe Club is hosting the Maryland State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

·       Cost: Food and beverages will be available to purchase. Only sanctioned, pre-registered pitchers may participate in the tournament. Spectators are welcome.  Rain date is Sunday, September 1.

Art Exhibit: “Snap Decisions”

·       Where:  The Meeting House Gallery, Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, 5885 Robert Oliver Place , Columbia

·       When:  Daily 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. – ends Sept. 7

·       Description:  Exhibit featuring the works of the Columbia Photo Artists, Tim Ambrose, Scott Berlin, Bruce Blum, Ann Eid, Joan Forester, Jerry Gettleman, Dennis Gilbert, Michael Oberman, Harriet Rosenberg, Jones Taylor and Jerry Weinstein, runs through Sept. 7 at the Meeting House Gallery.

An Evening of Chanting and Meditation

·      Where:  The Yoga Center of Columbia, Ste 109, 8950 State Route 108 , Columbia

·       When:  Saturday, Aug. 31, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

·       Description:  Rufus Juskus hosts an evening of chanting and meditation at the Yoga Center of Columbia. Evening consists of chanting in Sanskrit and English with meditation.

·       Cost: Free / A love offering will be taken.
