Cooling Down for a Cause: Ladle's Lemonade Stand

This Ellicott City family is putting the squeeze on childhood cancer.

The threat of rain didn't stop the fundraising efforts of an Ellicott City family Saturday morning.

Instead, Ladle's Lemonade Stand was bustling with customers and the family raised more than $100 to donate to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a charity that supports childhood cancer research.

Brian and Jillene Ladle supervised Ladle's Lemonade, which was run by 7-year-old Audrey and 6-year-old Lydia, with back-up from their brother, 3-year-old Dallin and some nearby neighbors.

Ladle's Lemonade was part of a nationwide network of lemonade stands and other fundraisers  held on Lemonade Days, June 10, 11 and 12, when volunteers across the country raised money for ALSF.

The foundation is named after Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a cancer patient who, at the age of 5, decided to to run a lemonade stand to help find a cure for all kids who have cancer.

Scott died in 2004, but the foundation that bears her name has since raised more than $40 million.
