Cleaning Up in Ellicott City

Volunteers took to the Tiber Hudson to remove debris that had washed into the river during Tropical Storm Lee.

Thirty volunteers put in 90 hours of work to clean up the Tiber Hudson River, which was cluttered with debris after the high winds and heavy rains of Tropical Story Lee dragged trash and tree limbs into the waterway.

The Oct. 22 clean-up event was sponsored by Friends of Patapsco Valley & Heritage Greenway, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and telling the story of the Patapsco River Valley.

According to Executive Director Betsy McMillion, the organization paid about $300 for the event, funded exclusively by donations. "We received no money from Howard County for this event -- only dumpsters."
