Is the Patapsco Valley Important to You?

Maryland Heritage Area Designation Sought for Patapsco Valley

The Patapsco Heritage Greenway will hold public meetings on the dates below to discuss the draft of a proposed Management Plan for a Maryland Heritage Area that would encompass a portion of the Patapsco River Valley from approximately Daniels to Relay.
  • 7 pm TUESDAY, MARCH 25 - HALETHORPE / RELAY
Relay Town Hall, 1700 Arlington Ave.
This is also the ANNUAL MEETING of PHG
  • 9 am SATURDAY, MARCH 29 - ELKRIDGE
Grace Espicopal Church, 6725 Montgomery Road
  • 7 pm MONDAY, MARCH 31 - CATONSVILLE
Catonsville Clubhouse, 10 St. Timothy's Lane
The meetings will provide an opportunity for the public to see, better understand, and comment on the proposed scope of the Heritage Area initiative, its geographic area, and the desired outcomes for the Patapsco Valley as a certified Maryland Heritage Area.

Following these meetings the draft plan will be finalized and the Proposed Management Plan will be submitted in early summer to both the Baltimore and Howard County Planning Boards for approval.  Once approved the Managment Plan will then be submitted to the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority where it will help determine whether the area receives certification as a designated Maryland Heritage Area

The Proposed Management Plan and MAPS will be made available online prior to the meetings.   The Management Plan and Heritage Area Designation DOES NOT IMPACT ANY DESIGNATED ZONING.

The Heritage Area Proposal is being sponsored by the Patapsco Heritage Greenway with support from Baltimore & Howard County Governments, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Heritage Authority

The Patapsco Heritage Greenway Inc. (PHG) is dedicated to preserving, protecting, interpreting and restoring the environment, history and culture of the Patapsco River Valley.  Neither a property-owning or governmental organization, PHG encourages positive management of the Patapsco Valley and its visitors to ensure that the Patapsco Valley remains pleasant for our generation and for future generations.
