US Speedskating Releases 2013-14 Junior Short Track Category One Skater List
Last week, US Speedskating announced the top 15 junior skaters in the country, including 4 young men and 3 young women who train with clubs in the DC area. This represents the largest concentration of junior short track speedskating talent in the US as well as significant achievements on the part of these seven young people.
At the end of each competition season, skaters are evaluated based on the points they earned in key races. Typically, the top 16 [8 males; 8 females], ages 14-19, who meet the criteria and rankings are awarded Category One status. This year only 15 skaters met the criteria. Category One skaters are seen as athletes with significant promise and the possibility of participating in future Olympic trials and competition.
