Family Fun this Weekend in Howard County

Here are some fun things to do around town with the family this weekend.

Where/When: Historic Ellicott City, Main St, Howard County Tourism Council, Ellicott City, Maryland 21043 Friday, July 6, 2012, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Why to go:  Bring your friends and family to town for a fun filled night of free live music, sales, specials and surprises!

Where/When: Ellicott City Bridge over the Patapsco River, Frederick Rd, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Why to go:  , one of the Patapsco River’s dearest friends and good will ambassadors will be remembered through Cairn Building (river rock building). Enjoy spectacular views of the works in progress from the scenic bridge over the Patapsco connecting Howard and Baltimore counties. Amongst the festivity will be hundreds of artists in town, painting Historic Ellicott City’s lovely hillsides, streetscapes, river views and more. Weather permitting!

Where/When: Historic Ellicott City, 8267 Main St, Howard County Tourism Council, Ellicott City, Maryland 21043 Friday, July 6-Sunday, July 8, 2012. All day!

Why to go:  Stroll the scenic street of Historic Ellicott City and watch artists painting all over town -- or join them! Artists from around the region take to the darling streets of Historic Ellicott City to participate in an organized three-day outdoor “paint-out”! Watch the artists work, take some pictures, visit the  river rock display, shop & dine and attend a gallery reception with ongoing exhibit of the works on July 9th at the Howard County Arts Council.

Where/When: Columbia Lakefront, Friday, July 6, 2012, 8:00-10:30 p.m. 

Why to go:  The Columbia Association’s Lakefront Summer Festival is sponsored by the Columbia Association and held on the lawn at the Columbia Town Center Lakefront (click for map) off Little Patuxent Pkwy. No admission fee is charged. Parking is free.

Every Friday, beginning June 15 until September 14, free dance instruction with music will be held under the People Tree at Town Center Lakefront, from 6:30-8pm. Tatia Zack will give instruction that’s fun for beginners and those with experience! When the dance session ends — the movie begins!

Where/When: Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum, 12985 Frederick Road, West Friendship, MD 21794, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Why to go:  The Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association will join the Howard County Antique Farm Machinery Club to demonstrate the way wheat is cut with horse/mule teams. Other demonstrations of threshing and baling will also take place. Free Admission.

Where/When: Columbia Lakefront, Saturday, July 7, 2012, 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Why to go:  On 4th of July weekend, enjoy some American Rock & Roll!

Washington D.C. singer/songwriter Billy Coulter’s distinctive style blurs the line between Roots Rock and Power Pop. Drawing on influences as varied as Bob Dylan to Squeeze he’s developed an organic sound that seems familiar but is definitely new.

Where/When: Columbia Lakefront, Sunday, July 8, 2012, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  

Why to go:  The Retro-Rockets, a six member Rock and Roll Band, plays the music of the 50’s, 60’s, 70′s and beyond; unique blend of rock songs, ballads, R&B music, classic instrumentals, driving rock and roll, and even country and blues songs.
