Centennial Park: 'A Lot of Fun Stuff'

Centennial Park is a local favorite and the latest destination on the Howard County Bucket List.

Summer is upon us and picnic season is in full swing, which means plenty of people are taking advantage of their local parks. For an outdoor experience with stunning scenery, Howard County residents don't have to travel far to get to

Stretching over 337 acres, the park boasts a walking trail more than two miles long around Centennial Lake, sports fields, picnic pavilions, a restaurant and canoe rentals.

Jeremy Fowler, 19, has known the park for years and now works renting boats along the lake.

"I've been coming here since I was a kid. I used to come here and actually rent boats with my aunt," Fowler said.

The park has received multiple accolades for its low impact on the surrounding environment, according to the Howard County Recreation and Parks website.

Four-year-old Makaila Toogood comes from Baltimore with her parents to play on the large playground and hit a few baseballs off the tee.

There's lots to do at the park, she said, but it was the simple things she noted:

"We can also stand in the sand and go do a lot of fun stuff here."
