Search & Rescue Open House

Maryland Search & Rescue in conjunction with BSA Venture Crew 616 will be holding our annual Fall Recruiting Open House on September 19, 2011 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 12430 Scaggsville Road (Rt. 216) in Highland Maryland. Maryland Search & Rescue trains and deploys volunteers in a 4-state area (Md., Va., W.Va. & Pa.) to participate in wilderness lost-person searches and mountain rescues. We are actively recruiting members to start our 2011/2012 training program. At the conclusion of this program candidates will be fully trained as a Field Team Member, available for callouts on Search and Rescue (SAR) missions in our regional response area, and able to continue their advancement to further training levels.  We are recruiting both adults and youth who are at least 13 years old and have completed the 8th grade or 14 years old. Our members are also members of Venture Crew 616, a co-ed leadership-development program that uses SAR as a mechanism to teach leadership.

We conduct meetings and training sessions on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm and usually one weekend per month. Training can be rigorous but if you enjoy the outdoors, like to challenge yourself and give back to the community, this might just be the thing for you.
