Mt. Hebron graduate Maybin makes impact for the Jets, Chapelgate soccer squads top conferences

Local football fans watching the Ravens game on Sunday night may have noticed Mt. Hebron graduate Aaron Maybin disrupting the Ravens’ offensive backfield in pursuit of QB Joe Flacco.

Maybin re-signed with the Jets last week after lasting late into their training camp this summer before being released. Following the release, the Jets kept in touch with Maybin in anticipation of a possible return to the club should a roster spot open. That opening occurred when they lost back-up center Rob Turner for the season with a broken fibula.

Maybin has taken on the role of pass-rushing outside linebacker for the Jets and against the Ravens forced a fumble and was credited with a sack, while pressuring Flacco on several occasions.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Maybin in the first round in 2009. A defensive end at Penn State, he lists at 6’4” and 240, a playing weight best-suited for his current OLB position in the NFL.

Mt. Hebron and Centennial both had off weeks on the gridiron. Hebron (2-3) dropped a 42-0 decision to Reservoir (2-3), while Centennial (0-5) lost to Long Reach (3-2), 42-21. The Eagles travel to Reservoir this week, while Hebron hosts Wilde Lake (2-3). Glenelg (5-0) sits atop the county rankings.
