Eagles notch gridiron win over Marriotts Ridge, 26-0

The Eagles moved into the win column on the gridiron with a 26-0 victory over the Marriott's Ridge Mustangs (0-9) on Saturday. Despite a wet backdrop of snow and rain, the Eagles ran for 127 yards in the first half alone. Senior Karon Hickman had 155 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Sophomore Walter Fletcher added 57 on the ground and a TD for the Eagles (1-8). 

(3-6) fell, 38-0, to the county-leading Atholton Raiders on Saturday. Atholton is 8-1 on the year with their only loss coming via forfeit in their opening game with Glenelg (7-2). The Vikings conclude their season this Friday at home against River Hill (7-2).

’s varsity football team ran its mark to 6-3 with a 13-7 road win over Reservoir (5-4) on Friday.

The Ellicott City Patriots’ 10-12 National team won their first round playoff game, 27-0, over South Germantown at Rockburn Park on Saturday.  The 8-2 Patriots face the second-seeded Columbia Ravens (9-1) this weekend. The Patriots 11-13 National team bowed from the playoffs to South Germantown, but finished the season with a strong 7-3 overall mark.

Howard grad Tyler Curley now has three touchdowns on 17 rushing attempts for the 7-1 Salisbury Sea Gulls; Curley also has one TD reception on the season. Former Lion and Salisbury teammate Calvin Ford is up to 39 tackles on the year, including two TFL’s.

Mt Hebron girls’ soccer (8-6-1 overall, 6-4-1 in conference) heads to JM Bennett High School in Salisbury for a 3A East Region Quarterfinal playoff game today. Hebron won their opening round playoff game against Annapolis High School, 3-1, to advance to the second round. In the win over Annapolis, Hebron got goals from juniors Kelsi Fosch and Susie Halper as well as freshman Nia Crump.

Centennial girls’ soccer faces Reservoir today in another 3A playoff game.  The Eagles received a first round bye in the state tournament.

Like the girls’ side, the Hebron boys bested Annapolis in their first round 3A playoff game.  The score was 6-1. The Centennial boys also received a first round bye, and face a Wilde Lake team that beat Howard 3-1 in their opening round playoff game.

Chapelgate girls’ soccer is 12-1 and still leading the MIAA – C with a 7-0 conference mark. Chapelgate boys’ soccer is 10-3-2 overall 9-2-2 in-conference, good for first place in the MIAA-C’s Black Division.

Ellicott City’s remains the LaSalle Explorers (5-6-4) leading scorer with 16 points through 15 games. The Explorers are unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0-3 record.

Local players on Salisbury’s men’s soccer team continue to have an impact as the Sea Gulls finished out their regular season with a 12-2-3 overall record. Senior goalie Brandon Mumby (River Hill) is 4-0 on the season and has allowed just three goals all year. Jimmy Mundy (Centennial) has started in all 17 games for Salisbury, and freshman Nick Buric (Mt. St. Joseph) has appeared in four games and added a goal for the #17-ranked Sea Gulls.
