Ellicott City Patriots' 8-10 captures title; Mt. Hebron Field Hockey falls just short in state title bid.

After a valiant effort, the (13-6) field hockey team fell to Westminster in the 3A state championship game on November 12 at Washington College, 1-0. Despite the loss, keeper Maddy Fisher had an outstanding game with 11 saves for the Vikings.

On the soccer field, the Mt. Hebron boys team also made it to their 3A state finals, but fell to Watkins Mill, 3-1. Hebron’s Will Rice had the sole score for the Vikings.

Chapelgate boys’ basketball, making the step up to the MIAA-B after consecutive years as MIAA-C champions, won their season opener, 93-20, against Carroll Christian. The game was in the first round of the Arlington Baptist Basketball Invitational. They won their second round game 68-34 against Arlington, and clinched the tourney with a 66-47 win over Cristo Rey Jesuit.

The Ellicott City Patriots 10-12 National team made it to the Mid-Maryland Youth Football championship after a 20-6 semifinal win over the Columbia Ravens. The Pats fell to top-ranked Maplewood 16-0 in the final.

On the Liberty level, the Patriots’ 8-10 team won the Mid-Maryland title with a 26-12 win over top-ranked Olney.

The Elkridge Hurricanes, who send players off to a number of high schools, including , won both the National and Federal Mid-Maryland titles at the 11-13 level.

Howard alum Tyler Curley rushed for 31 yards in the Salisbury Sea Gulls (10-1) 62-24 win over Western New England in the opening round of the Division III playoffs. Fellow Lion Curtis Ford had two tackles for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury advances to play New Jersey’s Kean University in a field thinned to 16 remaining teams.

The season continues for graduate Justin Harris and his Towson Tigers as they notched with a 28-17 win over Rhode Island. Harris had four tackles in the win. With the CAA crown comes an automatic bid to the FCS postseason for the Tigers.

Ellicott City’s Jason Plumhoff (River Hill) finished the season as the LaSalle Explorers’ soccer team’s leading scorer with 20 points in 20 games. The Explorers fell in the Atlantic-10 semifinals to George Washington.
