Whiz Kids: Cara Caccamisi, Katherine Chiu, Brittany Davis, Victoria Stroud

These Girl Scouts are designing and constructing a Children's Garden at The Samaritan Women in Baltimore.

Names: Cara Caccamisi, Katherine Chiu, Brittany Davis, Victoria Stroud

School/Grade: The girls were at Burleigh Manor Middle School and just graduated eight grade. They will all be attending Centennial High School in the fall.

Key to Awesomeness:  As part of Girl Scout Troop 1018, these four young women are coordinating the design and construction of a Children’s Garden at The Samaritan Women (TSW) in Baltimore.

The garden will be a fenced-in area approximately 15 by 40 feet where children can safely play while their parents volunteer or visit with residents. 

The girls were searching for a Girl Scout Silver Award project when they first heard about TSW. The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadet can earn.

They met with TSW founder Jeanne Allert and were immediately drawn in by her energy and “can-do” attitude.  She put them in touch with Grace Community Church, whose members generously offered to fund and install a picket fence to secure the area. 

Over the summer the girls will be clearing the area and building a sandbox, picnic bench and flower containers.  They would also like to include a children’s garden shed, but will need to rely on donations to help purchase those materials.
