Ulman Says He's Committed to County as He Begins Campaign

The County Executive said he's going to have to work "overtime" on his new second job.

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman said he's going to continue to do his day job "everyday, 110 percent" as he begins a campaign for lieutenant governor on a 2014 gubernatorial ticket with current Lt. Governor Anthony Brown.

"Every morning I wake up knowing I'm the Howard County Executive and committed to continuing to serve the citizens of Howard County," said Ulman. "I'm just going to have to work a little overtime on my second job, which is getting word around the state about the election."

David Nitkin, Ulman's communications director, wrote in an email that the county executive met with county employees last week and told them that campaign activities "will come in addition to, and not instead of, his work in Howard County."

"There will be no decline in his commitment to Howard," added Nitkin.

Ulman has about 18 months left in his term as county executive.

Ulman officially announced that he would run with Brown at a campaign event in Columbia on Monday morning.

"We both share the same vision and values for the state," said Ulman. "When [Brown] asked me to serve, it just felt like the natural thing to do."
