NotifyMeHoward Helps County Earn StormReady Designation

National Weather Service bestows designation upon jurisdictions prepared to meet weather challenges head-on

Howard County has been named a StormReady community by the National Weather Service.

The county received the designation in part because of its new NotifyMeHoward system, accordion to a press release from Howard County Government.

NotifyMeHoward, which launched in mid-November, is a "free enhanced notification system capable of delivering a wide variety of valuable information, like weather alerts, directly to the inbox or mobile device of subscribers," according to the statement.

In addition to some sort of notification system, StormReady-designated communities must have a 24-hour "warning point" to receive NWS information and provide local reports and advice on weather conditions, according to the statement.
