Meeting Tonight to Discuss Frederick Road Flood Issues

County officials will meet with residents to discuss what they can do to solve flooding problems west of Main Street.

Howard County officials will host a meeting tonight to discuss Frederick Road flooding, stream restoration and other issues that affect the area, particularly the issues faced by residents and business owners on the west end of Frederick Road.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the George Howard Building in Ellicott City and officials from the County's Department of Public Works, the Office of Sustainability, the County Council and the County Exeuctive's office will be on hand to discuss the problems with residents, according to the Ellicott City Flood Solution Facebook page.

The homes and businesses above Main Street were hit particularly hard when Tropical Storm Lee caused the Tiber and Hudson streams to overflow their banks in 2011, sending water gushing down Main Street towards the Patapsco River.

A study examining (pdf) the flooding event estimated a total of $528,800 in damage was reported by 20 properties as a result of the storm.
