Debate Comment: 'Losing Big Bird Saves Obama'

Debate viewers in Maryland had plenty to say about last week's debate.

Although there weren't any "You're no John Kennedy" quotes from this week's debate, many people on Patch and across the country had plenty to say about the first of three match-ups between President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

From Big Bird to budget, here are what Patch readers said about the debate:

"Why bother wasting valuable time watching two bought and paid for liars debate over what they they believe the voters want to hear? Both Obama and Romney have proven track records of saying one thing and doing something completely opposite of what they said they would do..." -- Shawn

"Guess what,  Obama didn't win the debate. He looked like a kid in school that didn't prepare for his test. This sure did show that we have an amateur in the White House. He couldn't even explain what he has been doing the past 4 years. We do not need him for another 4." -- Lois Guyton

"The jobs situation is still fallout from Bush's stock market crash, which will be reverberating for at least another 5 years in our economy." -- Christopher Kidwell

"I fell asleep in 15 minutes and I was really looking forward to it." -- Leslie Schildgen

"Lol.... look's like the most important thing that came out of the debate tonight to down Romney is Big Bird... Never mind the deficit, the ecomony, SSI, Medicare... Losing Big Bird saves Obama.... not surprised at all..." -- Mary Ann

"I almost didn't watch this historical debate. I am so thankful that I did. There was an assuredness, fluidity of thought and graciousness that reminded me of Ronald Reagan. Mitt Romney won this debate as the more decisively and decidedly presidential of the two." -- Bonnie Oskvarek

"Liars always win at first, until the truth comes out. Romney flipped more than most acrobats do in the circus." -- John Flanigan
