Howard County Curbside Collection Scrapped on Friday: CLOSURES

FRIDAY

Schools: Schools were already going to be closed for students in the Howard County Public School System on Friday, due to parent-teacher conferences. As a result of the weather, parent-teacher conferences are canceled. Central offices will open two hours late for essential employees and AFSCME employees. All other employees should not report. Howard Community College is closed.

Curbside collection: Trash and recycling collection have been canceled for Friday due to unsafe road conditions. Thursday and Friday trash collection and food scrap collection will occur on Saturday, Feb. 15. Please hold your recycling until next week and set it out on your normal collection day.

County government: Liberal leave is in effect at Howard County government offices. District Court and Circuit Court are closed.

Libraries: All branches of the Howard County Library are closed Friday.

Senior centers: Howard County senior centers and outdoor programs are canceled.

Buses: Howard Transit, HT Ride and Central Maryland Regional Transit are operating on a two-hour delay. The I-95 bus is canceled.

THURSDAY

Schools: The Howard County Public School System said that schools and offices will be closed on Thursday. Parent-teacher conferences are canceled. Howard Community College is closed Thursday.

Recycling/trash pickup: Curbside collections are canceled for Thursday and will be picked up instead on Friday. Collections scheduled for Friday will be picked up on Saturday.

Road closure: The Howard County Department of Public Works plans to close Main Street in historic Ellicott City at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday for snow removal. The road will reopen Friday morning.

County offices: Howard County government is closed on Thursday. Howard County Circuit Court and District Court are closed.

Columbia Association: All Columbia Association facilities are closed, except Supreme Sports Club, which is open with limited operations.

Parks, centers: All Howard County community centers, libraries and parks and recreation facilities are closed Thursday.

State offices: All Maryland state offices and facilities will be closed beginning at midnight on Feb. 12 through the end of the day shift on Feb. 13. Emergency essential personnel should report as scheduled.

Federal offices:
 All federal offices in the Washington, D.C., area are closed on Thursday. Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agencies' policies.

BusesHoward Transit, Central Maryland Regional Transit, HT Ride and the I-95 bus are suspended on Thursday.

Mall: The Mall in Columbia is closed. Hours at individual department stores and restaurants may vary.

WEDNESDAY

School activity deadline of 8 p.m.: All events—both school and community-sponsored—in the Howard County Public School System must conclude by 8 p.m. due to the expected inclement weather. That includes school athletic practices and games, the school system said.

Meeting canceled: Howard County Association of Student Councils canceled its meeting, which was scheduled for 7 p.m. 

Childcare operating as scheduled: Childcare programs that are sponsored by the Columbia Association, Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks and public schools will operate under normal hours.

Forum rescheduled: Due to the expected snow, the Columbia Democratic Club has rescheduled its forum with General Assembly candidates. The forum, which was slated for Wednesday, Feb. 12, has been postponed one week. Now, the forum will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Ridgely's Run Community Center.
