Victims in Shooting Listed in Fair, Serious Condition

An employee at the Ellicott City spa said she didn't know the suspect.

One of the victims who was shot Saturday at an Ellicott City spa is in fair condition, according to a spokeswoman at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore The other is listed in serious condition.

According to Howard County police, Lan Phan, 34, of Silver Spring, and Phuong Thanh Do, 40, of Florida, were shot Saturday at the Nail & Hair Care Spa in the Shipley’s Grant shopping center.

Phan is listed in fair condition and Do is in serious condition, according to  Shock Trauma Center spokesperson Cynthia Rivers.

Police were called to the spa at about 7 p.m. Saturday. Two people had been shot, police said.

In a statement released Sunday, police say the suspect, Tuan Minh Pham, 35, of Beltsville, went to the spa where Phan, his estranged girlfriend, works. According to the statement, Pham saw Do, a friend of Phan’s outside of the spa.

Police say Pham and Do fought, then Pham allegedly shot Do, who ran into the salon. Pham followed Do, according to police, and then allegedly shot Phan, before fleeing in a 1998 gold or tan four-door Honda Accord, license plate 2AK0291. 

According to a spa employee, identified as Lisa, "nobody knows [Pham]." She said that Saturday night, most employees were in the back, closing the shop and there were just a few customers left. When Pham entered the store, Lisa said, "We didn't see anything. We just heard 'bang, bang.' "

Do and Phan were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Pham and Phan have two children together, according to police, and Phan had a protective order against Pham at the time of the shooting.

Police are offering a $2,500 reward for tips leading to Pham’s arrest. Police are asking that anyone with information call 410-313-STOP. Callers may remain anonymous.
