Train Jumps Tracks in Howard County

Patrons at a nearby restaurant were evacuated as officials checked for hazardous materials.

Police and CSX crews are on the scene of a train derailment in Western Howard County.

Just after 12:45 p.m., firefighters and special operations units from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) responded to a report of a derailed train on the 1400 block of Woodstock Road, just next to the Woodstock Inn, according to a statement from HCDFRS spokesperson Jackie Cutler.

The nearby area was briefly evacuated, according to Cutler, including patrons at the Woodstock Inn. No hazardous materials were involved, however, according to Cutler, and no one was injured.

One car on the eastbound train came off the track, but jumped back on, causing the train to stop, blocking Woodstock Road, according to Cutler. The road was still blocked as of about 2:45 p.m., as crews attempted to move the train enough to let traffic by.

A CSX official on the scene declined to comment.
