Three Arrested in Ellicott City Jewelry Burglary: Howard County Crime Roundup

Three West Virginia residents were arrested after a smash-and-grab jewelry heist.

COMPILED FROM THE DAILY POLICE BULLETIN... ELLICOTT CITY: JEWELRY STORE BURGLARY (WITH ARRESTS)

Three West Virginia residents were arrested early Monday morning following a burglary at Sergio's Jewelry on the 10100 block of Baltimore National Pike, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The suspects have been identified as Dalton Fred Banker, 23, of Martinsburg; Barbara Rae Hartman, 25, of Martinsburg; and Amy Michele Rhoe, 20, of Hedgeville.

Police were called to the store at about 2:23 a.m. after  a witness saw people breaking a glass window. When officers arrived, they saw the suspects running and getting into a vehicle.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, but it drove off onto Bethany Lane. The chase took them through several neighborhood streets, ending on Route 40 near Turf Valley.

Two of the suspects were arrested there. The third was found later on Bethany Lane.

Police say the suspects broke the glass front door at the jewelry store and then broke display cases in order to steal jewelry. The stolen jewelry was recovered, police said.

Investigators are looking into whether this heist is connected with a burglary last week at another Ellicott City jewelry store, Berman's Jewelers, which is located on the 3500 block of St. John's Lane.

A video game system was stolen from a residence on the 9100 block of Flamepool Way. The suspect or suspects entered through a window. The burglary happened sometime between 5 p.m. on March 6 and 8 p.m. on March 11.

LONG REACH: BURGLARY

Medications were stolen from the Animal Welfare Society of Howard County on the 8500 block of Davis Road. The suspect or suspects entered by prying open a rear door. The burglary happened sometime between 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, and 7:50 a.m. on Friday, March 11.

ELLICOTT CITY: BURGLARY

A television was stolen from a residence on the 9900 block of Old Mill Road. The suspect or suspects entered by unknown means. The burglary was reported at 11:07 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.

ELLICOTT CITY: BURGLARY

A "collectible vase" was stolen from a home on the 4700 block of Parkvale Road. The suspect or suspects entered by breaking a front window. The residence was also ransacked. The burglary happened sometime between 3 p.m. on March 6 and 1:15 p.m. on March 13.

LAUREL: BREAK-IN/VANDALISM

Five juveniles were arrested following a break-in at Carmax on the 8800 block of Freestate Drive. A witness called police after seeing the suspects driving vehicles on a secured lot after the dealership had closed, damaging several of the vehicles.

ELKRIDGE: BURGLARY

A television, a video game system and two laptops were stolen from a residence on the 6100 block of Rainbow Road. The suspect or suspects entered through an unlocked sliding rear door. The burglary happened sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.

ELKRIDGE: BURGLARY

Tools were stolen from a garage on the 5700 block of Main Street. There were no signs of forced entry. The burglary happened sometime between 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, and 1 p.m. on Friday, March 11.

ELKRIDGE: BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

A suspect or suspects tried to enter a residence on the 5800 block of Main Street by ripping a window screen. No entry was gained. The attempted break-in was reported at 12:51 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.

DAYTON: BURGLARY/ROBBERY

Police are looking for two men suspected of breaking into a house on the 4600 block of Linthicum Road.

The break-in happened at about 10:56 a.m. on Friday, March 11. The suspects knocked on the front door, and when nobody answered the door, they forced their way inside.

That's when the resident saw them. One suspect ran away, while the other stole the resident's cell phone and then ran away in the direction of Howard Lane.

One suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old, between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet, with a medium build and close-cut blond hair, and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The other suspect is described only as a white male wearing dark clothing.

WOODSTOCK: BREAK-IN

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in at the Waverly Woods community on the 11100 block of Chambers Court. The suspect or suspects were able to get inside two maintenance rooms by prying open a pair of doors. The break-in happened sometime between 9:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 13.

COLUMBIA, ELLICOTT CITY: VEHICLE THEFTS

- Columbia: A black 1991 Lexus with temporary Delaware license plates was stolen from the 6100 block of Cedar Wood Drive. The vehicle was reported stolen at 10:12 a.m. on Friday, March 11.

- Columbia: A green Plymouth Breeze with Maryland license plate 9CAC89 was stolen from the 9800 block of Softwater Way. The vehicle was reported stolen at 4:56 p.m. on Friday, March 11.

- Ellicott City: A 2010 Ford Taurus with Maryland license plate 4EML10 was stolen from the 8000 block of Brightwood Court. The vehicle was stolen sometime between Feb. 25 and March 12.
