(UPDATED 4/21, 5:45 p.m.) State Police Confirm Phylicia Barnes Found Dead

The teenager had been missing since December, when she was visiting family in Baltimore.

The female body discovered in the Susquehanna River Wednesday morning is that of Phylicia Barnes, the 16-year-old missing from Baltimore since Dec. 28.

A female body was found just north of the Conowingo Dam on the Harford County side of the Susquehanna River. An unidentified male body was found some three to four miles south of the dam, which is located approximately 10 miles north of Havre de Grace, where the Susquehanna empties into the Chesapeake Bay.

The Maryland State Police and the Baltimore Police Department will hold a briefing on the investigation Thursday night at State Police Headquarters in Pikesville.

As of Wednesday night, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was leading the investigation into both discoveries. Both bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, scheduled for autopsies Wednesday morning.

The recovery of a body Wednesday was  by Havre de Grace Patch Wednesday afternoon. State Police said at that time there was little information, but the homicide division was investigating the situation. A news release Wednesday night confirmed the discovery of not just one, but two bodies in the Susquehanna River Wednesday.

Barnes was from Monroe, N.C., and was visiting her half-sister when she went missing from northwest Baltimore three days after Christmas. Police have had few clues to work with.

The identity of the male remains unknown.

Shortly after 7:30 Wednesday morning, troopers crossing the Conowingo Dam via Route 1 were stopped by workers on the dam. The workers reported having seen what they thought was a body in the river near the Harford County side of the dam. Around 10 a.m., Natural Resources Police recovered the body of a woman, which was transported to the Glen Cove Marina for examination before being transported to Baltimore.

While investigating the first recovery, officials were alerted to a second body seen in the water just before 2 p.m. Boaters south of the dam found the body of a man floating in the river. Natural Resources Police recovered the body before turning it over to Maryland State Police.

Police departments in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania were alerted Wednesday.

The Susquehanna River begins in Cooperstown, N.Y., and empties into the Chesapeake Bay in Havre de Grace. The Conowingo Dam is the southernmost dam on the Susquehanna River, located a little less than 10 miles north of Havre de Grace. River levels Wednesday indicated no more than 15 of the 53 flood control gates were open.

Patch will provide updates as they become available.

I have been following this story since I first heard about it and this story was so distressing for anybody especailly those of us who have young daugthers. I can only say that I am glad they have found phylicia now her mother dosent have to worry if she is suffering or been tortured thats the only good thing about this case. I pray that the true God Jehovah will be with her and that he will comfort her. He know and understands what it is like to lose a child because he lost his son Jesus in death and he continues to lost his children (humans) in death every single day but the time will come when death will be no more. revelation 21:3&4 and he will wipe all tears from the human face. I will continue to pray for phylicia mother and her family. stay in prayers dear family because prayer is a powerful source. and it will get thur the days to come.

No one has the right to literally take a life a person what-so-ever! I am so irate over the fact that things of this nature is happening. But what can we do, other than hope for the best and let justice do the work and bring closure to the family as well as those who are concern. I pray for the family to Phylicia Barnes, I really and truly do. (so sad)
