Son Sentenced for Stabbing Dad in Ellicott City

The 28-year-old apologized before his sentencing.

An 28-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday for stabbing his father in his family home in Ellicott City last year.

In March, Clement Yien-Yi Chiu pleaded guilty in Circuit Court to attempted first-degree murder. According to court records, Chiu—who was living in College Park at the time—was visiting his parents in Sept. 2011, when his father accused him of using credit cards without permission.

At that time, Chiu pulled out a pocket knife, stabbed his dad in the neck and then punched him in the head, according to court records. He then chased his father with a “large kitchen knife,” according to documents. Chiu’s dad escaped in his car.
