Robbery at Gunpoint and Other Crimes: Howard County Crime Roundup

A would-be robber pulled a gun on a teenage boy in Columbia.

COMPILED FROM THE DAILY POLICE BULLETIN... ELLICOTT CITY: BURGLARY

Prescription drugs were stolen from a residence on the 3200 block of Normandy Woods Drive. The suspect or suspects entered through an unlocked door. The drugs were taken from a container, but the container itself was left behind, police noted. The burglary happened sometime between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

ELLICOTT CITY: BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

No entry was gained following an attempted break-in on the 9800 block of Michaels Way. The suspect or suspects sought to enter through a rear door. The attempted break-in was reported at 12:42 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

HARPER'S CHOICE: ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

Police are seeking a man suspected of attempting to rob a teenage boy at gunpoint Monday afternoon in the Columbia village of Harper's Choice.

The attempted robbery took place at about 2:25 p.m. on the 5600 block of Cedar Lane. The suspect approached the teen, displayed a gun and demanded valuables, police said. But when the teen refused, the suspect fled.

The teen reported the incident two days later to the school resource police officer at Wilde Lake High School, according to police.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 21 years old, 6-feet tall with a thin build, a mustache and a beard, and wearing a white sweater, a black shirt and blue jeans.

JESSUP: ROBBERY

A man who had stepped momentarily out of his vehicle wound up getting mugged Thursday afternoon in Jessup, according to police.

The man was at the intersection of Oceano Avenue and Tarbay Drive at about 3:30 p.m. He had gotten out of his car because he'd noticed a strange noise coming from the muffler.

That's when someone approached him from behind, assaulted him and rifled through his pockets, police said. The suspect then tried to open the vehicle's passenger-side door, but the door was locked.

The suspect then fled on foot toward Route 175.

Nothing was reported stolen, according to police.

The victim drove himself to an urgent-care facility, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He then called police.

The suspect was described as about 6-feet tall and wearing blue pants and a blue jacket that had patches on it.

Though the robbery occurred at the same intersection (and on the same day) as a , those incidents were not related, according to police.

HARPER'S CHOICE: BURGLARY

Jewelry was stolen following a burglary on the 5000 block of Summer Day Lane. The suspect or suspects entered through a rear sliding glass door. The burglary happened sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10.

ELKRIDGE: BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

No entry was gained following an attempted break-in on the 6600 block of Deep Run Parkway. The suspect or suspects attempted to enter by prying doors, removing a rear panel on the house and tampering with with a screen. The attempted break-in happened sometime between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
