A sampling of crimes reported in Ellicott City and around Howard County.

Ellicott City: Break-in attempt

No entry was made during an attempted break-in at a home on the 11700 block of Triadelphia Road. The suspect or suspects set off a residential alarm while trying to get inside. A resident later discovered pry marks on the rear window. The attempted break-in was reported at about 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Columbia: Robbery

Two suspects believed to be teenagers robbed a person Friday afternoon on the 9000 block of Rustling Leaf, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The suspects approached the victim, assaulted him, and made off with his wallet and money.

The robbery was reported at about 3:43 p.m.

One suspect was described as a black male, 15 to 16 years old, approximately 5-foot-7, with short hair, piercings in both ears, and wearing a blue hoodie.

The other suspect was described as a black male, 16 to 18 years old, 5-foot-10 and wearing a white T-shirt.

Columbia: Robbery

A person was sitting in his car on the 10400 block of Faulkner Ridge Circle was confronted by two men who proceeded to rob him, according to police.

The men made off with money, a cell phone and keys and also ransacked the inside of the vehicle. The victim “suffered lacerations” and was treated at Howard County General Hospital, police said.

The robbery was reported at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, May 16.

Columbia: Break-in

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in at a construction site on the 5700 block of Cedar Lane. The suspect or suspects entered the site, and cut locks off trailers. The breakin happened sometime between 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and 6 a.m. on Friday, May 13.

Columbia: Break-in

Nothing was taken following a break-in at a home on the 5000 block of Lake Circle Court. The suspect or suspect punched a hole in a glass kitchen door. The break-in happened sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13.

Columbia: Break-in attempt.

No entry was made during an attempted break-in at a home on the 5100 block of Durham Road East. The suspect or suspects broke a pane of glass on a rear door. The attempted break-in happened sometime between 5 p.m. on Friday, May 13, and 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 15.

Columbia Town Center: Burglary

A mountain bike was stolen from an open garage at a residence on the 10200 block of Rutland Round Road. The bike was later found nearby. The burglary happened sometime between 10 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Columbia: Burglary

A watch and two rings were stolen from a residence on the 5000 block of Jericho Road. The suspect or suspects got inside after smashing a sliding basement glass door with a rock. The burglary was reported at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Elkridge: Burglaries

In one of two burglaries at the same building, a television was stolen from an apartment on the 6200 block of Greenfield Road. Several drawers were also ransacked. The suspect or suspects got inside the building after prying open an exterior side door, then pried open the apartment door. The burglary happened sometime between 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and 1:45 a.m. on Friday, May 13.

In the other burglary at the building, two televisions, remote controls and a DVD player. The suspect or suspects also pried open the door to this apartment, which was adjacent to the other one that had been broken into, police said. The burglary happened sometime between 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, and 9:33 a.m. on Friday, May 13. 

Laurel: Burglary

Food was stolen from a vending machine following a break-in at the Howard County Library branch on the 9500 block of Durness Lane. The suspect or suspects entered the library's lobby by breaking a glass front window, then broke into the vending machine. No entry was made into the main part of the library.

The burglary happened sometime between 8 a.m. on Friday, May 13, and 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14. A similar incident happened at the library in March.

Highland: Burglary

Merchandise, topographical maps and an autographed football were stolen from a business on the 7600 block of Browns Bridge Road. The suspect or suspects got inside after breaking a rear window. The burglary happened sometime between 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.
