Police to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint this Weekend

Police will also use the scheduled checkpoint to check for seat belts and child safety seats.

Police announced Monday they will conduct a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Howard County this weekend.

The checkpoint is part of ongoing effort by police to target drunk and drugged drivers, said police. The checkpoint will consist of marked and unmarked police vehicles checking seat belts, child safety seats and for drunk drivers.

In 2012 the department arrested 1,174 drivers for driving under the influence, said police. About 30 percent of the county's fatal collisions in 2012 were alcohol-related, reported police.
