Police say Neighbor Broke in Through Window: Crime Roundup

Residential burglary

An acquaintance of a woman who lives on the 3400 block of Plum Tree Drive knocked on her door on May 18 at about 5:45 p.m., according to police. The resident ignored the knocking, but a few minutes later heard a loud crash in the kitchen. When she went to see what the noise was, the resident saw that her acquaintance had removed the screen to a kitchen window and climbed into the home. The acquaintance, a 52-year-old Ellicott City woman who lives on the same block, was charged with fourth-degree burglary.

Maintenance personnel for a residence on the 8600 block of Town & Country Blvd. discovered on the night of May 16 that someone had been living in the boiler room of the building. According to police, they found clothes, food and toiletries. Police say the door was most likely left unlocked.

Residential burglary

A man on his way to the front door of a home on the 9200 block of Canterbury Riding on May 5 at about 11:30 p.m. was stopped by a man with his face covered who showed a gun and demanded money, according to police. The victim gave the robber his wallet; in it was cash and ATM cards.

  • The suspect is described as a 5-foot-5-inch tall black man with a stocky build. He was wearing jeans, a black top and his mouth and nose were covered.

A resident of the 9100 block of Burbon Street saw a mattress move that he’d put up against his bedroom window. When he went to check it out, he saw that someone had pulled back the window screen and the window had been unlocked. 

Columbia

Residential burglary 

Someone entered an open garage door on the 9600 block of Golden Rod Path early the morning of May 18, according to police. The burglar went through the resident’s vehicles and then went inside the home and stole money from a wallet and a purse. 

Sometime between 7 p.m. on May 17 and 7 a.m. the next day, someone opened an open garage door on the the 10200 block of Rutland Round Road. The burglar went through the vehicles and stole a wallet with an ID and credit cards.

When resident returned home to the 107000 block of Cordage Walk on May 15 at about 11:40 p.m they found their front door open.  Although it looked like someone tried to force the door in, according to police, it didn't appear anyone entered the residence and nothing was reported stolen.

Someone entered a vacant home on the 6200 block of Plaited Reed sometime between May 9 and May 16. According to police, the burglars sprayed graffiti and punched holes in the walls and ceiling. Police also say they played beer pong on a makeshift table and left empty beer cans behind. 

Countywide vehicle thefts/attempts:

A 2001 blue Volvo truck was stolen from the 7400 block of Gerwig Lane on May 19 at about 10 a.m.

A 2011 gray Chevrolet HHR was stolen from the 890 block of Good Harvest Court on May 9 at about 6:30 a.m.  

A 1995 green Honda Accord with the tags DC 13-45258 wa stolen from the 8400 block of Cotoneaster Drive on May 16 at about 7 a.m.

A green Honda Accord was stolen from the 7100 block of Dorsey Run Road on May 16 at about 7:20 a.m.
