UPDATE: Police Say Wheatfield Residents May Return Home

Police said a man committed suicide in his home.

The Howard County Police Department said that residents of the Wheatfield Way area may return home, 10 hours after officials closed the road to respond to an at-risk individual.

Police responded to a call in which an individual may try to harm himself, officials said just before 10 a.m.

Officers entered the home and found him deceased, police said after 8:15 p.m.

Wheatfield residents may return to their homes, officials said.

Wheatfield Way had been closed from Montgomery Road to Autumn Harvest, according to officials.

At 4 p.m., displaced residents were offered shelter at Glen Mar Church (4701 New Cut Road) if needed.

Police said that "a few students can't take buses home to Wheatfield Way due to ongoing incident," and Howard County Public Schools would contact parents.

"There is no immediate danger to surrounding residents," police said, noting there would be increased police activity in the area.

"...please minimize travel or outside activities in the area," police said.

At 8:15 p.m., police said the situation had been resolved and family members of the individual had been notified. Residents may return home, police said.
