Police Chase Car Through Elkridge, Ellicott City, Catonsville

A state police helicopter also joined the search for the driver of a car that was reported stolen last month.

An early morning traffic stop Monday led to a police chase, a crash and a helicopter search that ended on Edmondson Avenue in Catonsville.

According to Howard County Police, an officer attempted to stop a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer at Ilchester Road and Landing Road in Elkridge for an equipment violation.

Police said the male suspect drove west on Ilchester Road toward Route 103 where he headed north on Route 29, east on Interstate 70 and into Baltimore County.

Police continued to follow and the chase ended on the 800 block of Edmondson Avenue in Catonsville, where the suspect struck a curb and crashed into a parked car on the 800 block of Edmondson Avenue at Arthur Avenue.

Police said the suspect abandoned the car and ran away, then Baltimore County Police arrived to set up a perimeter. A Maryland State Police helicopter was called in to assist with the search but the suspect was not found.

Patch readers reported a helicopter circling in that area of Edmondson Avenue for roughly an hour at 4:20 a.m.

Howard County police said the vehicle was reported stolen through Baltimore County police on on July 23. The vehicle was towed to Howard County's northern district for processing.

Police have not identified the suspect and say the investigation is continuing.
