Police Arrest Burglary Supsect Hiding in Closet: Howard County Crime Reports

Howard County crimes reported to police between Oct. 17 to Oct. 22. All information provided by Howard County Police.


Ellicott City

Residential burglary - arrest

Police arrested a 22-year-old man from Columbia and charged with him with fourth-degree burglary and two counts of destruction of property after police found him hiding in an upstairs closet of a home that had been broken into. A woman was inside the residence in the 3500 block of Upper Mill Court at the time of the break-in around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 17. She called police after hearing a rear sliding door shatter and someone enter her home. She hid in a laundry room until police arrived.

Commercial break-in

Someone broke into a detached shed on the VFW property in the 4200 block of VFW Lane, but didn't steal anything, sometime overnight on Oct. 19 - 20.

Robbery

A man and woman worked together to rob a person in the 10900 block of Clarksville Pike on Oct. 16 around 6 p.m. Police reported the woman held the person's arms back while the man took cash and a cell phone from the victim's pockets. Both suspects are believed to be juveniles. The incident was late-reported to police.

Robbery

A man was robbed by another man outside Second Chance Saloon in the 9600 block of Whiteacre Road. The man offered to help the suspect purchase cigarettes and began to walk with him toward a store. When he pulled out his wallet, the suspect grabbed it and fled the area around 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 20. Police described the suspect as a black male, about 45-years-old, six-foot, wearing a blue shirt with blue stripes and long dark pants.

Residential burglary

A laptop was stolen from a residence in the 6000 block of Majors Lane sometime during the afternoon of Oct. 18.

Residential break-in

Someone broke into a vacant dwelling in the 6100 block of Majors Lane on Oct. 17, but nothing appeared to be missing. A BB gun was found at the site.

Commercial burglary

An employee of Arium AE in the 5500 block of Twin Knolls Road noticed that the store's rear window had been smashed with a rock and later found two laptops had been stolen sometime overnight on Oct. 21.


Elkridge

Robbery

A delivery driver for Wings and Things was robbed by four young men while making a food delivery in the 9600 block of Barrel House Road around 7 p.m. on Oct. 21. Police said one of the men brandished a pocket knife and grabbed the driver's iPhone, then all four men fled on foot. 

Residential break-in

Someone broke into a residence in the 5900 block of Fox Glen Court by entering through a ground-floor window. A purse, cash and jewelry were stolen sometime between Oct. 10 - 14.

Commercial break-in

Someone made entry to the former Norbel School building and stole computers sometime between Oct. 7 and Oct. 17. Police said entry may have been gained from a door that was found ajar near the main entrance. They reported that it appeared whoever broke in "spent a significant amount of time in the school."

North Laurel

Residential burglary

Two bedrooms were ransacked and small electronics and jewelry were taken from a residence in the 9600 block of Covered Wagon Drive after someone entered the home through a front window on Oct. 21.
